Whitsundays tour plan in tropical Queensland Australia for 7 days

Day 1, Airlie Beach – What to see

  • We landed in Prosperine at 13:00. We decided to get to the hotel from the airport using Airlie Beach Transfers & Tours. A bus will take you straight to the hotel, where the “Whitsunday Transit” bus stops only in the centre. (34 AUD return)
  • The first 3 days we wanted to regenerate and relax, which is why we booked accommodation in Martinique Whitsunday. The hotel is situated on a hill with a beautiful view with a kitchenette and swimming pool but be prepared for a steep climb!
  • You can do grocery shopping at Coles.
  • In the evening a walk along the promenade in the centre. A cocktail at the Airlie Beach Hotel is worth stopping by.

Tips & Tricks:

  • Purchase a return bus ticket, it’s cheaper. The return bus arrives at the place chosen by you on the way back.
  • By choosing an apartment with a kitchenette, you can save on food.

Day 2, Airlie Beach

  • We spent the whole day lounging by the pool and admiring the bay.
  • In the evening we went out for dinner at Fish D’vine & The Rum Bar.

Day 3, Things to see in Airlie Beach

  • After breakfast, we went for a walk along the shore to Lure – Coral Sea Marina Resort. About 45 minutes one way.
  • On the way, you can stop at the Sorrento Restaurant & Bar for coffee. Beautiful view of the bay.

Day 4-7, Whitsunday Island & Whitehaven Beach

Tips & Tricks:
In the tropical part of Australia, planning depends on the weather! Check the weather for the next two days and choose activities. Our last 3 days were very tropical with high rainfall, so we chose option C.

    Plan A

    • Two-day camp on Whitehaven Beach with Scamper – transport, tent with other equipment for $ 350 for two people + grocery shopping. Remember to buy a camping spot at parks.des.qld.gov.au

    Plan B

    Plan C

    • Full day motorboat cruise to Whitsunday Island. We chose zigzag on book.me An unforgettable experience at sea. You will see a coral reef and beautiful beach – Whitehaven Beach. Great atmosphere with a friendly crew. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop at Hill Inlet. (118 AUD per person in the price of lunch).
  • Overnight at Airlie Guest House (58AUD per night per person).
  • Fat Frog Beach Cafe – super recommended. You can catch a free shuttle bus in the centre of Airlie Beach – you can check out the year of departures online.
  • Hertz or Gypsy Travel car rental. Remember to do it the day before. (70AUD + insurance).
  • Cedar Creek Falls – a very nice waterfall in the middle of the bush.
  • Hideaway Beach in Gloucester Bay. A beautiful place with turquoise water, white sand and palm trees. To be honest, if we have had more time, we would have stayed for one night, because you can rent a holiday cabin with ocean view. It is worth going a bit further after the resorts, there you will see less crowded exotic beaches.
