What to see on Great Ocean Road

1 day

  • 10:00 Our plane landed in Avalon. We got to the center by SkyBus (ticket $ 22 in one page)
  • 11:30 We rented a campervan with a tent on the roof in Wicked campers . Make sure you get a cooking set, a gas stove, a full gas bottle, a cooling box, a table, chairs, an AUX adapter, check that everything works. Do not forget to take pictures of the car. ($500 rent + $500 deposit).
  • 13:30 We did shopping in Coles Footscray.
  • 15:00 Bells Beach – first stop. We spent about 15 minutes here for the first photo.
  • 15:30 Along the way, you must stop at Golf Links Road near Anglesea Golf Club. The kangaroo family lives there. We’ve marked this point on our Google map.
  • 16:00 Eagle Rock Lookout. A nice place with a lighthouse in the background.
  • 16:45 Memorial Arch at Eastern View. A memorable photo with the gateway to Grean Ocean Road.
  • 18:00 We got to Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park. A unique place in the morning! It is definitely worth staying here. (Cost $60 for 5 people/unpowered site)

2 day:

  • 8:00 It’s totally worth getting up early to drink coffee at the Swing Bridge Cafe overlooking the beach. Be sure to check it out! You can take a swimsuit if you like morning showers in the sea.
  • 10:30 After breakfast, we managed to get on the road. We had an unplanned stop at the Lorne Aquatic Club. The trunk lid in our car was ajar and the entire crate of beer (24 bottles) crashed into the asphalt. We recommend checking three times before the trip. But a blessing in disguise, because the photo is beautiful from this place.
  • 11:00 We saw a koala for the first time in life in a natural environment. Stop at the “Kafe Koala” bar and walk up through Gray River Rd. Look out for koalas on the trees or at the Kennett River Holiday Park.
  • 13:00 Marriner’s Lookout. The view from this lookout is unbelievably awesome. Few people know about this place, and it is really worth seeing.
  • 16:00 Gibson Steps. Make sure that you went down to the beach.
  • 16:45 Twelve Apostles. Honestly, we didn’t really like it – crowds, crowds and once more crowds.
  • 18:00 Campbell Recreation Reserve – the cheapest option for a camping site, but grill / electricity / showers were there (cost $ 10 per person ).

3 day:

  • 09:30 London Bridge.
  • 10:30 The Grotto. As you come down the stairs you can take a nice photo with a hole in the rock overlooking the ocean.
  • 11:30 Sherbrook River. You have to walk about 15 minutes, but worth it. There are rocks, sea, hidden cave and no people!
  • 12:30 Return to Port Campbell and eating lunch at 12 Rocks Beach Bar Cafe. Good food!
  • 14:00 Loch Ard Gorge. It is worth taking a swimsuit, because you need to jump into the water. We spent almost 3 hours here.
  • 17:00 Bay Of Islands. A similar bay to Twelve Apostles, only without crowds.
  • 18:30 Discovery Parks – Warrnambool. The most expensive of all Holiday Parks we’ve slept in. ($120 unpowered site for 5 people)
  • 19:30 Dinner in Pavilion Cafe & Bar.

4 day:

  • U have two returning routes, either fast via the M8 / B140 or back two hours longer via Great Ocean Road. We had time so we chose the second option. It’s nice to see these beautiful views from the other side.
  • We got to the airport by SkyBus (ticket $22 one way)
